City Profile

Zibo is a prefecture-level city in central Shandong province, China. It borders the provincial capital of Jinan to the west, Laiwu and Tai’an to the southwest, Linyi to the south, Weifang to the east, Dongying to the northest, and Binzhou to the north.

Located in the middle part of Shandong province, Zibo is an important transportation hub. Zibo governs 5 districts, i.e. Zhangdian, Zichuan, Boshan, Zhoucun and Linzi, and each of these districts has a distinct downtown area of their own. The T-shaped city covers a total area of 5,965 square kms-three counties-Huantai, Gaoqing and Yiyuan included. The total population of the city is 4.615 million. The city’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2014 reached 402.98 billion yuan RMB. Zibo is also a famous historical and cultural city, national garden city and national civilized city.

Economic Situation

Since reform and opening up, Zibo city enhanced its economic strength. In 2014, the city’s GDP reached 402.98 billion yuan, fixed asset investment 240.46 billion yuan and public budget revenue 29.25 billion yuan. Deposits and loans of financial institutions reached 359.43 billion yuan and 249.05 billion yuan respectively. Urban residents per capita disposable income and rural per capita net income reached 33534 yuan and 15531 yuan respectively.

It is quite convenient to travel from Zibo to many major cities in China. You can go to many cities at home and abroad by air from Jinan Yaoqiang international airport or Qingdao Liuting international airport. It only takes you one hour by bus from Zibo to Jinan airport. Zibo in Shandong province is an important railway junction. In Zibo, a variety of accommodations can be chosen. Zibo city has two five-star hotels, seven four-star hotels and 21 three-star hotels.

Zibo city has abundant educational resources. There are eight colleges and 30 secondary vocational schools. Key universities include Shandong University of Technology. By the end of 2009, Zibo owns 1,386 health institutions, including 123 hospitals, 156 community health service centers, 94 township public health centers, 9 maternity and child care institutions, 4 specialist disease control institutions, 9 disease prevention and control institutions, as well as 8 health supervision institutions.

Shopping and Leisure

Zibo has numerous places for shopping and entertainment. Many large retailers, such as Wal-Mart stores, Jusco shopping center, RT supermarket, Ginza Mall, Liqun, Zhenhua building, as well as Tesco have been stationed in Zibo. Throughout Zibo city, there are a lot of stadiums, historical museums, parks and other recreational facilities to provide a wide range of leisure options for tourists and settlers. Zibo is one of China’s famous tourist cities. It is the capital of state of Qi. Major tourist attractions, such as Qi Old City Museum, Pu Song-ling’s former residence and Jiang taigong Temple, are well received by visitors. Zibo owns six 4A-level tourism zones and twelve 3 A-level tourist areas receiving more than 2,000 domestic and foreign tourists every year.
